Restylane

Restylane is a popular dermal filler developed and marketed by Medicis Aesthetics Inc. of Scottsdale, AZ.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

This popular dermal filler Restylane is made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in skin. Water binds with hyaluronic acid, thus contributing to the skin’s volume and elasticity. Young skin contains healthy amounts of hyaluronic acid. But as you age, your skin loses this important element—and begins to thin. Wrinkles, creases, and folds appear, and lips look less lush.

What Restylane Treats

Restylane restores this nurturing acid—and the water molecules it attracts—to the skin. Most commonly used to reduce wrinkles and folds around the mouth and lips, it is also a popular treatment for “crow’s feet” wrinkles around the eyes. It has also been FDA-approved (2011) to increase or restore fullness to the lips.

Treatment with Restylane

No allergy testing is needed for this filler. You may be given a topical anesthetic to decrease any discomfort during treatment. Restylane will be injected with very fine needles. With each injection, you may feel a brief stinging sensation, similar to a minor insect bite.

What you can expect

Mild swelling, redness, or bruising often occurs after treatment; these side effects usually disappear with a few days. Your skin will show improvements—less pronounced wrinkles and fuller lips—effective immediately. These results typically last 3-6 months in the lips and 6-9 months elsewhere on the face.
